With the Zimbabwean dictator, Robert Mugabe, in hospital, many people are wishing him dead, so that the people of Zimbabwe can at last be freed from his reign.

I have already read various comments on Facebook and newspaper sites, which clearly indicate that many are happy to hear of Bob’s admittance to hospital.

May we wish a much-hated terror-of-a-person dead? I guess this is a question that especially Christians will be asking themselves… Well, I’m not going to answer this question with either a yes or a no! But what I will say is this: Nothing that people do here on earth goes unseen… Every rape, every cruel murder, even every dog that is buried alive – God knows about it.

“The Lord looks down from heaven and sees the whole human race.” (Psalm 33:13); “…for he looks throughout the whole earth and sees everything under the heavens.” (Job 28:24); “Even the depths of death and destruction are known by the Lord.” (Proverbs 15:11).

For me this means we can find comfort in knowing: The guy who raped a daughter, the man who drove over a beloved spouse and didn’t stop – that person will have to stand before God one day. He will one day right all wrongs: No unrepentant evildoer will be able to stand before God. “For it is written, ‘Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,’ says the Lord.” (Rom 12: 19)

I have this comforting verse tattooed on my wrist and it encourages me on those days when nothing feels fair: “And they will wage war against the Lamb, but the Lamb WILL OVERCOME, for He is KING of kings and LORD of lords, and with Him WILL BE His called, chosen and faithful followers.” (Revelation 17:14)

God WILL right all wrongs

Peace, out (Haha – I always wanted to say that!)

  1. i think Jesus’ treatment of Judas [washing his feet before the meal] and His cry of ‘Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do’ is a strong indication as to what our response should be – was Saul [later Paul] not the Mugabe of his time? or close to it? and yet God intervenes and His life is completely turned around and he becomes a proponent of the Gospel and builder/defender of the church… could that not happen with Mugabe as well? it certainly doesn’t look like it, but i imagine it didn’t with Saul/Paul either… but Jesus spoke huge about loving your enemies and i’m pretty sure that by that He didn’t mean kill them, or even hope for their death.

    • Hi Brett! Thank you so much for your comment – and sorry about only replying now. Since the birth of our baby, I have been so occupied with ‘figuring out’ how this new present works! What a challenge:-)

You are right… and I never thought of Paul. God is able to do far more than we can imagine, right? Thanks for the reminder. I got a reply on Facebook to this post, where a lady said that she gets so frustrated by passivity (for example Christians saying, oh, we shouldn’t judge – we must leave it to God)… what do you think about that? Being called passive in this regard?

      • i think if the christian is simply doing it as an excuse or an easy one liner [we tend to like throwing those around] then that is a little different from someone who has thought long and hard about it and done some wrestling on the matter and landed on that place as their position based on an understanding [or idea of an understanding] of who Jesus is and was and what His response would have been – I just can’t see Him wielding the axe, pulling the guillotine rope or pushing the button to set the lethal injection in motion – what is quite interesting to me is that usually the person calling for the killing and the person administering the killing is a different person and i imagine the person calling for the killing is usually quite happy for that to be the case.

        • Thanks Brett – what you have written here makes sense to me 🙂
Hehe, yes, I also can’t imagine Jesus axing or electrocuting anyone…hmmm
ohhh baby Alex just started crying! Got to run!!;-)

  2. and here is a blog i wrote titled ‘Hitler’s mom’ [] imagining whether someone like hitler or hussein or bin laden or even mugabe might have had a mom – someone who loved him and didn’t see him in the same light as we did now… worth a look…

    • WOW! You just changed my perspective on all of this!! Now that I have a baby, I can see what you mean! If our Alex had to turn out being a Hitler or Bin Laden, I would still love him soooo much that my heart aches…
